Great Scot! Nathaniel Collins put aside his friendship and dismantled his former amateur teammate and compatriot Lee McGregor, in the fourth round of their duel for the vacant WBC Silver Featherweight Title at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow.
Collins (17-0, 8 KOs) put on a relentless display of aggressive southpaw counterpunching, sending the former three-time European bantamweight champion to the canvas and closing the fight with a powerful left hook to the body.
With the WBC Silver featherweight belt slung over his shoulder, the 28-year-old Collins wasted no time expressing his aspirations:
“I’ve always dreamed of holding a WBC belt, and now I want to face Stephen Fulton for the full world title. Whether it’s in the United States or Riyadh, let’s make it happen.”
In 2023, Collins made his presence felt with a stunning 24-second knockout of Raza Hamza in his Queensberry debut. Despite his undefeated record and impeccable record in title fights, his profile has been relatively low-key.
Solid wins over James Beech, current British and Commonwealth champion Zak Miller, and Francesco Grandelli have earned him respect among fighters.
But decisively stopping experienced opponent McGregor could be what finally catapults him to global recognition.
