This week’s Martes de Cafe featured a video recap of the thrilling fight between Mexican boxers Lourdes “Lulú” Juárez and Yésica Nery Plata.
Yésica shared her thoughts:
“As always, it’s a pleasure to be here with you. I thank God for allowing both Lulú and me to finish the fight safely. We gave the war we promised—there’s always a war when Mexicans step into the ring.”
Lourdes added:
“Good afternoon, everyone. I’m grateful to God and happy to have given a fight that the fans enjoyed. As a boxer, that’s one of our goals. I’m thankful and eager to keep moving forward.”
Media questions
—Lourdes, would you consider giving Yésica a rematch?
“Of course. I’m always open to any fight. I’d just like to see what options come up before stepping back into the ring with her.”
—Yésica, are you still with MVP?
“Yes, I’m still with MVP. My inactivity was due to not having a promoter, but now that I do, I’ll be more active and keep chasing my goal of becoming world champion.”
—Lulú, is there anyone in particular you’d like to fight?
“As I’ve said, I’d love to become flyweight champion. If Gabriela Fundora gives me the opportunity, I’d be thrilled. I’d also like to unify at light flyweight and face Evelyn Bermúdez.”
—Yésica, strictly speaking from a boxing standpoint, what do you think was missing?
“I’m happy with my performance. I respect the decision that was made—it’s time to turn the page.”
—Lulú, what do you think made the difference for you to win?
“As Yésica mentioned, we both gave a great fight. I think I was just a bit more aggressive, and now it’s time to enjoy the moment.”
WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán spoke about what could come next for both fighters:
“First, we’ll give them their space—they deserve a good rest. We’re very proud of both of them. This matchup has all the elements for a rematch, both in sporting and regulatory terms, and fans would love to see it again. It’s also possible that Lulú faces Fundora. Next month, during our Annual Convention, we’ll review all mandatory fights and consider new proposals.”
