Yafai overwhelms Edwards in England

The 2020 Olympic gold medalist, Galal Yafai, became the interim flyweight champion of the World Boxing Council, by dominating former world champion Sunny “Showtime” Edwards, in the main event of a card that the Matchroom Boxing company organized at the Resorts World Arena, in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Yafai’s onslaught was intense and unremitting. From the first round, he hammered  Edwards from pillar to post. With the imbued spirit of a champion, Edwards tried to fight back, but he couldn’t stem a riptide of punches incoming from all angles and landing. In the sixth, Edwards was shipping a flood tide of punishment and not offering much in return.

The Referee had seen enough and stepped in to save him, mercifully wrapping his arms around him.

The end of the fight came at 1:10 minutes into the sixth round, in front of the Birmingham crowd, which mostly supported local lad Yafai.

With this victory, Yafai improved his record to 9-0, with 7 knockouts, while Edwards fell to 21-2, with 4 knockouts
