Wilder promises fans another “epic fight” with Fury
By Peter Gilbert
Deontay Wilder expects an announcement on his eagerly anticipated rematch with Tyson Fury within the next fortnight and promised fans another “epic fight.”
The pair battled to a thrilling draw at the Staples Center in Los Angeles in December in a heavyweight showdown which won the “WBC Fight of the Year” award.
Fury, whose incredible return to the ring also earned him “WBC Comeback of the Year,” rose from the canvas in the final round to snatch victory from Wilder’s grasp and deny the American his 40th knockout in 41 fights.
A rematch has since been ordered by the WBC and reigning champion Wilder updated fight fans about negotiations when he attended his younger brother Marsellos Wilder’s cruiserweight clash on Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
“It’ll be announced real soon, maybe in two weeks or so,” Wilder told Fighthype in a ringside interview after watching Marsellos suffer a shock fourth-round KO to journeyman William Deets.
“It’ll be announced, so we’re getting all the little things in order, and we’re going to make another epic fight.”
British promoter Eddie Hearn claims he has been attempting to secure Anthony Joshua a unification clash with Wilder but the American “won’t even answer the phone.”
Wilder, however, dismissed Hearn’s comments and confirmed a second showdown with Fury will be his next fight.
“Don’t listen to what Eddie says. It will come around. It’s Wilder-Fury, that’s it.”
