The World Boxing Council has introduced the commemorative “Guerrero Azteca” belt to celebrate important fights between Mexican boxers, honoring the rich history of boxing in this country.
This prestigious belt pays tribute to legendary rivalries such as Morales vs. Barrera, Chávez vs. De la Hoya, Zárate vs. Zamora, Torres vs. Nava and the iconic Israel Vázquez vs. Rafael Márquez series, among many others.
The inaugural “Guerrero Azteca” belt will be awarded to the winner of the February 1st showdown between Mexico City’s Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz and Tijuana’s Angel “Tashiro” Fierro at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. This clash adds another chapter to the legendary rivalry between these two boxing powerhouses, known for producing numerous world champions.
As an emotional moment, Cruz and Fierro will compete for this special belt in honor of the legendary Israel “Magnifico” Vazquez, whose departure in December left an indelible mark on the sport.
Pitbull vs Fierro is part of an incredible PBC Amazon card:
David Benavidez vs. David Morrell: A long-awaited super middleweight showdown for the interim WBC 175-pound title.
Brandon Figueroa vs. Stephen Fulton Jr.: A rematch of their close 2021 battle. With Brandon’s WBC featherweight belt on the line.
