Galal Yafai will face former world champion Sunny Edwards on November 30, for the interim flyweight title of the World Boxing Council.
Edwards, a 31-year-old Londoner, won the world title at 112 pounds in April 2021, defeating Moruti Mthalane. Edwards made four successful defenses before losing a unification fight to Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez by knockout in December 2023.
Edwards returned in June, winning a technical decision shortened over Adrian Curiel to move to 21-1 (4 KOs). That fight was the second of two consecutive appearances in Arizona for Edwards. This will be his first fight back in the UK since June 2023.
Yafai is also 31 years old and has a record of 8-0 (6 KOs). He triumphed at the 2020/2021 Olympics and then turned pro in 2022. In recent bouts, Yafai outpointed Rocco Santomauro (22-2) last December, stopped Agustin Gauto (21-1) in eight rounds in April and then won a very active fight by defeating Sergio Orozco Oliva (9-8) in three rounds.
