Alycia Baumgardner will defend her WBC 130-pound title against Delfine Persoon tonight in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Detroit’s Baumgardner (15-1, 7 KOs) will fight for the first time since July, when she defeated Christina Linardatou in a rematch to retain her super featherweight championship. Baumgardner owns a fourth-round TKO win over Terri Harper and a split decision win over Mikaela Mayer. These pair of victories helped establish her as one of the best fighters around, per round.
Belgium’s Persoon (49-3, 19 KOs) is a former world champion; she is considered by many boxing experts as one of the best women fighters of all time. The 39-year-old’s most recent fight was in May 2023, with a decision win over Bo Mi Re Shin in Belgium. In 2019 she lost by majority decision to Irish star Katie Taylor and two fights later by unanimous decision in the rematch.
