WBC´s BoxVal program proud to participate during the FutVal Peace Game
The World Boxing Council is honored to run the world boxing program named BoxVal on behalf of Pontifex foundation Scholas Ocurrentes since 2016.
Pope Francis appointed WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman from Mexico to run BoxVal, a program designed to bring opportunities to the youth of the world using principles and values to educate through sports, culture, arts and technology.
BoxVal was present during the last Peace Game celebrated on November 14th at the Olympic Stadium in Roma as a posthumous homage to the great Diego Armando Maradona . WBC Champion for Peace, Emilio Marsili, was present with his beautiful WBC Peace belt and was part of the emotive ceremony.
The game called “We Play for Peace,” features the participation of many important figures in the world of Soccer, and follows the first two matches, held on 1 September 2014 and 12 October 2016.
This year’s edition pays homage to football giant Diego Maradona, who participated in both previous Matches for Peace, leading the ‘Scholas squad.’ Maradona passed away in November 2020.
Pope Francis thanked the athletes for sowing seeds of peace in a world marked by war.
Peace, the Pope said, is the fruit of gestures like theirs, namely “of closeness, friendship, the outstretched hand, always,” and “not with the stone in your hand to throw it.”
These “seeds of peace,” he said, may be small, but “are capable of changing the world.”
BoxVal is an ongoing program which touches lives every single day all over the world. Boxing is the sport of the poor of the world, those born in humble beds who dont find any other alternatives in life to become someone. Through hard work, dedication, discipline, sacrifice and passion they follow their dream and one day become heroes of their families, communitties, cities, countries and even the world .
The first BoxVal event was Canelo vs Khan in Las Vegas with the olive tree planted and the Peace belt awarded to the winner of a fight between a Catholic and a Muslim who are now best of friends.
