One of the most famous boxers of all time and the only world champion daughter of a superstar champion.
Mother, model, actress, philanthropist and businesswoman.
Born on December 30, 1977 in Miami Beach, Florida, Laila completed her bachelor’s degree in business at Santa Monica College.
With boxing running through her veins, Laila decided to enter the world of cupped gloves, in which her father became iconic. And Laila made her professional debut on December 8, 1999, knocking out April Fowler in the first round.
From that victory onwards, Laila won eight consecutive victories, which immediately caught the attention of sports fans and experts, which gave rise to a fight against George Foreman’s daughter, Freeda Foreman, and with Joe Frazier’s daughter, Jackie Frazier-Lyde. On June 8, 2001, Ali and Frazier signed a fight that was nicknamed Ali/Frazier IV, in reference to the famous trilogy of fights of their famous parents.
On that occasion Laila Ali won by majority decision in eight rounds. It should be noted that this was the first women’s fight broadcast on pay-per-view.
With a perfect record and after facing the best exponents, especially as Christy Martin, who was a pioneer of women’s boxing, Laila, then won the world title of the World Boxing Council in the super middle division after defeating Gwendolyn O’Neil by knockout in the first round.
That was the last appearance of Laila, who retired, leaving an undefeated record with 24 fights, 21 of them via fast track. How proud was dad!
