In Round 46 we talked about people deprived of their freedom.
The WBC has launched initiatives such as “Box, don’t throw the towel”, “Boxing for Reintegration” and “Boxing without chains” in Argentina. These are programs that aim to develop social, psychological and labor tools that allow Inmates to reintegrate into society once they are released from prison, as well as reduce levels of violence at the individual, family and community levels, having two main components: Sports and psycho-emotional.
Dr. Eunice Rendon spoke about how important it is to work with the most vulnerable community and she thanked the World Boxing Council, which works directly and diligently on these initiatives.
Manuel Palma Rangel, Sub-secretary of Penitentiary Control in the Secretary of Security of the Government of the State of Mexico, explained the importance of having a comprehensive program that includes the sports aspect with training sessions, motivational talks with professional boxers, integrating the psycho-emotional component with therapies individual and group, in order to tackle plus cut out violence and improve interpersonal relationships.
Marcos Arienti, who has done an excellent job with Boxing without chains in Argentina, spoke about the results that have been produced so far, commenting that the changes have been extremely significant. Up to now there have been no violent incidents inside the prisons, Inmates’ relationships with their families have improved and drug use has been significantly reduced.
He commented that we must continue looking for schemes that contribute to reintegration through comprehensive interventions that address their physical, psycho-emotional and social needs from different areas.
Dr. Eunice explained that actions related to the tertiary prevention of violence, are essential. It has been proven that one in four inmates recidivists since the punishment model that prisons have does not work. So, the interest in working with reintegration models such as these in hand with the forgiveness methodology, which has been extremely beneficial for many of the inmates, really does work.
Do not miss this interesting talk, which leads us to understand what people deprived of liberty live day to day, and how necessary it is to bring them reason, logic and purpose encouraging them to get ahead and claim back their place in society.
