WBC TALKS, ROUND 28: Mexican greats and great friends Humberto González and Pipino Cuevas

Today our ribs were tickled the laughter abounded and our sides were sore, following one of the most hilarious WBC TALKS we have ever had, as in this 28th edition we greeted two super guests and compadres who shared wonderful stories spanning decades…none other than the great champions Humberto González and Pipino Cuevas.

More than the fun and games, this duo related their childhood years, escapades, scrapes and so many adventures. Pipino Cuevas said that he came to a gym for the first time when he was just 10 years old, and that when he returned his home his father prophetically predicted: “Very well son, you will be champion at 18 years old. You mark my words.”

And precisely as Pop predicted, he was crowned champion, aged just eighteen, defeating Ángel Espada by knockout in Mexicali, with whom he fought two more times repeating the same dose.

Humberto González, also remembered the first time he arrived at a gym, even stated that he mistakenly arrived at the Margarita gym and went there where he met…Pipino, “Chiquita” was 7 years old, but a great friendship was born with Cuevas. So much so that after a few years, every day these two friends met to eat breakfast at a nearby restaurant.

Anecdotes of their careers, their championship fights, rivalries, and much more was what we experienced in this great talk, laced with lots of laughter.

The jokes, sparkling keen wit and great good humor plus camaraderie were so evident, and enjoyable.
