Today, at 11 o’clock in the morning, the teacher and director of WBC Unversity, Xochitl Lagarda, welcomed the faculty of doctors of WBC University, Dr. Diana Sosa, Dr. Ricardo Monreal, Dr. Nazul Akke, Dr. Juan Tong accompanied by Dr. Victor Marin, and by our WBC champion, Jackie Nava spoke to us about the importance of vitamin D in high performance athletes.
With extensive knowledge of the subject, our experts commented about all the benefits that vitamin D brings to our body as an essential nutrient that acts directly on the nervous system, the immune system and that directly influences the absorption and phosphorus and calcium metabolism.
The doctors agreed that this vitamin helps us reach the maximum potential for bone mass that we have as individuals, so that at times of accelerated bone loss, such as in the case of menopause or aging, we have a sufficient bone reserve. In addition, in the case of high-performance athletes, a 4000 IU vitamin D3 supplementation helps to fix calcium within bone tissue; which favours athletes by avoiding injuries, making them more resistant and less prone to fractures.
Our “D3 Ambassador” and Champion Jackie Nava said that many times, athletes do not know the importance of good nutrition or good habits. She commented that as high-performance athletes it is almost mandatory to know and understand our body, because sometimes what works for one boxer does not always apply the same for another.
She clarified that even though she had some knowledge about vitamin D3, and it was until she became a D3 Ambassador that she really learned more about all its benefits, especially on the subject of women’s health, and confessed to being surprised at the damage deficiency of this vitamin can cause.
For Jackie, it is important that everyone, and especially athletes, to know their vitamin D levels, because, as the doctors commented, a contribution of 4000 IU in athletes helps to fix calcium, in addition to the fact that, in injured athletes and non-athletes , a vitamin D deficiency can delay rehabilitation and recovery after orthopedic surgery.
WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán joined this meeting. He thanked all the doctors for their great participation and especially Jackie Nava who is part of our GREAT campaign for health, raising awareness and carrying the message of the importance of Vitamin D, since in Mexico vitamin D3 deficiency represents a public health problem about which very little is known.
Mauricio Sulaiman also took the opportunity to thank the “D3 Ambassadors”, WBC super bantamweight champion, Yamileth Mercado, the Green and Gold world champions, Rey Martinez (fly) and Oscar Valdez (super featherweight) and great prospect David Picasso, as they have also actively participated in publicizing all the benefits of this vitamin and raising awareness of all the goodness it brings to our bodies.
Mauricio Sulaimán and Dr. Monreal, promised to carry out a GREAT DAY with licensed boxers to carry out a “25-Hydroxy” study to find out their levels of vitamin D in the blood and be able to grant them proper treatment. Dr. Monreal clarified -according to questions from the public- that vitamin D is not considered doping since it is not on the WADA or VADA list of prohibited substances.
Our experts gave a lecture on all the contributions of this vitamin D, if you missed this great talk we invite you to enter:
