
On December 5th it will be fifty years since José Sulaiman was elected President of the World Boxing Council and his youngest Son Mauricio, who now leads the WBC has just concluded the annual Convention, this year in Bangkok Thailand.
Days of intense work with resolutions leading towards the formation of a comprehensive Plan of Action for the Coming Year. At the Conclusion of the Convention Agenda, Mauricio said: “There have been many, many things, It has been incredible to see so many people from so from all around the World get together and be so active.
“No one is here for a vacation. We have been doing an incredible amount of work and putting together a plan for next year.”
And about the uniqueness. Mauricio stressed: “The WBC and Muay Thai together in a Convention which will always be remembered as one of the greatest of all:”
As for the ambitious Plan of Action, Mauricio explained: “We have weight management, anti doping, education about investment, saving money, many matters for the ring officials, sparring and a knockout in the gym has to be reported to the boxing commission. A lot of technologies that were presented, Fight Book, Ready to Fight, the Undisputed Game. So it’s a very complex long term plan for next year.
“Anti doping regulations have to be tightened up. We are going to do much stricter protocols and we will be moving forward.”
Commemorating Don Jose’s fiftieth anniversary, looking back to when he became the catalyst and the breath of fresh air, which blew the cobwebs off the old era boxing, heralding a new dawn.
Cherishing the past, which has made the present possible, and looking to the future, Mauricio said: “Fifty years. That’s the inspiration we received, and now we look forward for fifty more.”
