During the opening session, the council presented and analyzed the core pillars of the organization’s mission:
Safety Committee (Medical Protocols & Pre-weigh-ins): It was reaffirmed that the physical integrity of the athlete remains the number one priority. The council reviewed mandatory medical examination protocols and the 30, 14, and 7-day weigh-ins—measures designed to eradicate extreme dehydration and prevent brain injuries.
WBC Cares: The organization’s social arm reaffirmed its commitment to bringing hope to hospitals and youth centers globally. Discussions also focused on mental health campaigns and cancer awareness, demonstrating that the WBC’s impact transcends sport.
Advanced Technology in Boxing: The expansion of technological tools to ensure ring justice was discussed, including the use of impact sensors and health-monitoring apps to gather scientific data for fighter protection.
WBC Amateur: This program was highlighted as the essential platform for training the next generation of champions under the values of discipline, ethics, and technique, strengthening amateur boxing worldwide.
Comprehensive Support for Promoters: Recognizing promoters as the engine of the industry, the WBC discussed new ways to facilitate event organization for the benefit of the entire boxing community.
The Strategic Importance of WBC Social Media, Media, and Communications: The WBC’s communication serves as the bridge that unites boxing tradition with science and social responsibility, establishing the organization not only as a sports regulator but as an influential global thought leader.
The meeting will conclude this Thursday, January 22, following a second session addressing additional technical and administrative matters. The resolutions reached during this summit will have a direct impact on the regulation and development of the sport internationally throughout the year.
The WBC enters 2026 in a phase of transformation, maintaining its leadership as the governing body dedicated to the constant evolution of “the Sweet Science.”
