The World Boxing Council (WBC), through its WBC Muay Thai Mexico branch, has officially unveiled its National Ranking, marking a historic step forward in the professionalization and recognition of Muay Thai athletes across the country.
For the first time, the ranking brings together national champions from multiple weight divisions, representing various states of the Mexican Republic. This initiative reflects the rapid growth and competitive rise that Muay Thai is currently experiencing in Mexico.
The classification system is constantly evolving, as champions must defend their titles to retain their positions—or risk losing them to new challengers. “This had never been done before because there weren’t enough contenders, but today we have a strong base of athletes supporting it,” the organization explained.
The goal of WBC Muay Thai Mexico is to maintain a framework of transparency, sporting merit, and continuity, similar to that of professional boxing, where every victory and title defense adds to a champion’s legacy.
This project represents not only a tool for recognition but also a development platform for the next generation of Mexican Muay Thai stars.
In the coming weeks, WBC Muay Thai Mexico will publish the full rankings for all divisions:
