The World Boxing Council and its President Mauricio Sulaimán, mourn the death of Ali Salaam, father and trainer of our former champion Tony Harrison.
Tony confirmed the death of his father on Monday through his Instagram account. Salaam died of complications from covid-19 at age 59.
“You were in a tough fight and you went the distance. The decision just didn`t go our way but we were together every step of the way what more could I ask!!!! My right hand forever! Get some rest Pops. It ain’t goodbye just see you later!!” beautifully, poignantly and emotionally wrote a true and appreciative loving son.
Salaam, who was also a professional boxer, trained fighters for many years in his hometown of Detroit. He led his son to win the WBC super welterweight title in December. Together the two of them did it!
The entire WBC family prays to God to give Tony, his family and many friends, solace at this so sad time, balanced with the balm of tremendous memories of a fantastic man and a great fighter, who won`t be forgotten.
Rest in peace!
