During the traditional Martes de Café, WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán announced the organization’s participation in the “Plan Michoacán for Peace and Justice”, a federal initiative aimed at strengthening social well-being and public safety in the state.
“Yesterday, a national plan was presented, and we immediately raised our hand — both as an organization and as Mexicans. We invite the entire boxing community in our country to unite our efforts for our nation. Today, we officially announce boxing’s participation,” said Mauricio.
The plan, introduced by President Claudia Sheinbaum, outlines a comprehensive strategy for social development and security, backed by an investment of over 57 billion pesos to expand access to education, healthcare, housing, and dignified employment for Michoacán’s families.
The program also seeks to reinforce public safety through the coordinated work of federal, state, and municipal forces, with progress reviews scheduled every fifteen days to track results.
As part of the WBC’s commitment, Mexican boxers Carlos Molina and Javier Prieto, both proud Michoacán natives, were announced as ambassadors of the initiative, embodying the values of perseverance and resilience that define boxing.
The World Boxing Council also pledged to carry out continuous social and community activities, including a possible amateur tournament, motivational talks, and initiatives to promote sports as a tool for social transformation.
“Sports are the best cure for any ailment,” Mauricio concluded, emphasizing boxing’s role as a force for hope, discipline, and unity within communities.
