At the WBC’s Convention in Bangkok the Ratings Committee preliminary meeting is making its way and a day of it, plus headway.
This initial phase prepares the groundwork, the Ratings Committee led by Dean Lohuis, is multi-cultural and vastly experienced. They meet monthly on zoom, but this is an opportunity to chat face to face, cheek to jowl and be side by side.
Dean’s knowledge is legendary and extensive. He also has his famous index card system to back him up.
Later, at the open session, reasoned arguments will be listened to, assessed and amendments will be made, if the logic has practical merit and cogent as well as enactable merit.
The validity and accuracy of the ratings is fundamental and absolutely essential to the bedrock core of the World Boxing Council.
This first phase is to formulate the format to be discussed viz the men’s and women’s ratings which respectively ranges between heavyweight and straw weight, and heavyweight to atomweight.
History, recent and current bout performances are being carefully considered, with the avowed aim that everyone is treated fairly, based on merit and contemporary activity. The whole must equal and equate to the sum of the parts.
An aptly fitting jigsaw, to provide the overall portrait. A clear horizon above a level base, which in this case is the ring, as boxing is most assuredly NOT a play sport.
