The WBC is championing a petition to President Donald Trump to right a wrong inflicted on the great Joe Louis by the IRS, who mired him in spiraling debt and reduced him to the depths of despair, due to his open handed generosity and kind heartedness.
During the Second World War Joe,m who was known as the Brown Bomber fought for the Army and then the Navy Benevolent Funds, taking home just one dollar each time and donating the rest.
But the IRS taxed him on the lot and this placed him into dire debt. He had to come out of retirement and fight on, yet in spite of taking punches after he chose to hang up his gloves, Joe still couldn’t clear the debt which was accuring interest and continued to hang around his neck like a millstone.
At the WBC Convention in Bangkok, Frank Garza who is fighting for justice and with it vindication, is seeking pardon and remission via the power of the Presidency.
Basically Joe was wronged and even at this late, belated date, it must be put right.
Frank said that Joe Louis should be granted the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Through his courage determination and dignity Joe desegregated the Armed Forces and Major League Baseball.
WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said: “We are very much looking to get a moment of justice.”
