With the wellbeing of the fighter as its number one priority, the World Boxing Council, has just launched a new weigh in system on the same day of the fight, in which the contestants must not be more than 10 percent above the division stipulation.
The fighters are weighed in the dressing room of the arena where the fight will take place. Although at the moment, it is an unofficial weigh in , the WBC is pioneering and championing this initiative, in order to carefully monitor the boxers` health and integrity.
Last weekend this happened at the Don Haskins Convention Center in El Paso, Texas, where WBC super featherweight champion Miguel “Alacran” Berchelt retained his crown defeating Miguel “Mickey” Roman.
We thank the supervisor of the WBC, Alberto Leon, for carrying out this protocol and sending the results to the WBC´s office.
