3 During the WBC’s traditional ‘Martes de Café’ press conference, Chiquita Boxing presented a great charity event 

Chiquita Boxing presented a great charity event, at the esplanade of the Municipal Palace in Nezahualcóyotl, combining high-level boxing with a clear social purpose: collecting new toys to be donated on Children’s Day.

4 In an afternoon filled with laughter, mariachi, and Latino pride, iconic comedian Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias was honored with the 2,838th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

The event, which celebrated the artist’s decades-long career of uniting cultures through humor, featured a special presence from the world of sports. The World Boxing Council, an organization that has always walked hand-in-hand with the most influential figures in popular culture, was present at this significant ceremony. José Antonio Arreola Sulaimán, representing the organization and its president Mauricio Sulaimán, recognized Iglesias’ achievements and greatness by presenting him with a replica of the emblematic Green and Gold Belt.

4 The D-backs and “El Tri” Welcome WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán, Who Threw the Ceremonial First Pitch Ahead of Arizona Exhibition Game

Boxing and baseball celebrated each other this Tuesday with the participation of Mauricio Sulaimán, President of the World Boxing Council, throwing the ceremonial first pitch during the exhibition game between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Mexican National Team. The encounter was also highlighted by great moments prior to the pitch, such as Sulaimán’s speech to “El Tri” in the locker room before the game, which Mexico ultimately won 6-3.

5 WBC University Addresses “Strength” and Scoring Criteria in New Masterclass

The word of the month at the World Boxing Council is “strength,” and under that concept the  WBC University Masterclass was held, led by President Mauricio Sulaimán, and the Chairman of the WBC Ring Officials Committee, Duane Ford.

The Sahara Las Vegas hosted the Mike Tyson Invitational amateur tournament, where a select group of elite amateur boxers gathered to showcase their skills in the ring. Living legend Mike Tyson headlined this major event with the goal of promoting American boxing talent

13 Matchroom Boxing wins purse bid for WBC Flyweight unification bout between Ricardo Sandoval and Galal Yafai

In a ceremony held this March 13, 2026, the WBC conducted the purse bid for the highly anticipated mandatory fight between the WBC World Flyweight Champion, Ricardo Sandoval, and the division’s Interim Champion, Galal Yafai. Matchroom Boxing secured the win with a bid of $625,000 USD. Meanwhile, Golden Boy Promotions presented a proposal of $411,000 USD. With this result, Matchroom Boxing earns the right to organize this significant bout, which will define the absolute 112-pound monarch of the WBC.

17 WBC PUTS THE spotlight ON inclusion and social reintegration

Te WBC, led by President Mauricio Sulaimán, held a new edition of its traditional “Martes de Café”, focusing on initiatives that promote inclusion, diversity, and the social impact of boxing. During the session, the WBC highlighted the progress of the WBC Cares program in support of people with Down syndrome, in commemoration of World Down Syndrome Day on March 21. As part of this initiative, boxers with this condition were recognized with medals, highlighting their discipline and commitment to the sport.

A special press screening of the documentary Rómpete la Madre was held, a project that explores the reality, challenges, and strength of women in boxing. The event brought together media representatives in an intimate setting that allowed them to learn more about the process behind the production. Boxer Guadalupe Bautista, champion Marilyn Badillo, and the documentary’s director, Daniela Uriza, attended the event and shared their thoughts about the project and the importance of giving visibility to the stories of women who have paved the way in the sport.

Estefany “Fanny” Alegría surged back, to authoritatively defeat Danna Paola “La Girita” Alanís and secure the World Boxing Council Silver Light Flyweight title in a bout held in Gómez Palacio, Durango.

Mexican Gohan Rodríguez captured the World Boxing Council Silver Super Flyweight title after defeating former Nicaraguan champion Cristofer “El Látigo” Rosales by unanimous decision this Saturday in the main event of a card held at the “Vicente Fernández” Palenque in Gómez Palacio, Durango.

The World Boxing Council Middleweight Champion, Dominican Carlos Adames, made his third successful title defence in convincing fashion, defeating Austin “Ammo” Williams by 12-round unanimous decision in the main event at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida.

Guatemalan Lester Martínez made history by defeating American Immanuwel Aleem via unanimous decision to capture the World Boxing Council Interim Super Middleweight title this Saturday night at the Orange Show Events Center in San Bernardino, California.

22 Mexico vs. USA – Amateur Boxing, Two Nations, One Dream

The Mexico vs. USA amateur boxing event in Douglas, Arizona, was a resounding success, bringing together athletes, fans, and communities from both sides of the border in an extraordinary display of sportsmanship and unity. This event was made possible thanks to the leadership and support of Mayor José Grijalva and the City of Douglas team, as well as the backing of U.S. Senator Rubén Gallego, whose dedication to youth, sports, and binational collaboration continues to generate a significant impact. The competition featured thrilling and highly competitive bouts, all officially sanctioned by USA Boxing in collaboration with the World Boxing Council.

In a morning filled with energy and social commitment, the World Boxing Council’s iconic “Martes de Café” —held this time in Puebla, Mexico— featured the presence of Josejas, the ambassador who has revolutionized the connection between sport and the spirit. Before the specialized press and the boxing family, Josejas reaffirmed his mission: to use boxing not only as a combat sport but as a vehicle for healing and empowerment for new generations.

The World Boxing Council’s “Martes de Café” took place in the beautiful city of Puebla, featuring Gabriela “Bonita” Sánchez and Tamara Demarco, who clashed for the WBC Interim Flyweight title.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán held an important meeting with the Governor of Puebla, Mexico, Alejandro Armenta, a prominent supporter of sports.
