Undefeated two-division world champion Rey Vargas and top contender O’Shaquie Foster will clash for the vacant World Boxing Council super featherweight title on February 11, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Both held a virtual press conference where they commented about aspirations.
REY VARGAS
“I want to excite the fans. So come to me with what you have. Let’s give the fans what they want.
“Alamodome is definitely beautiful and a place where I have wonderful memories. This is another step into history for me and there is no better place to do it than in San Antonio. I’m looking forward to giving the fans a great show.
“Foster is very different from my last opponent. We have done a lot of different things in this training camp. We are preparing for the strategy that we think he is going to employ. He is elusive and can be difficult to catch.
“At the end of the day, it’s about two guys in the ring trying to get the best out of each other. I have been in friendly and hostile environments in the ring. So I’m not worried about anything about Foster.
“We are returning to a place where I have great memories and I am ready to do it again. I know it’s a new weight class, but I don’t feel uncomfortable at all. I want to make history and do something that I will remember for the rest of my career.
“I’ve fought all kinds of styles, so nothing really surprised me. I have a feeling Foster will show up and be aggressive. If he fights me tactically, then I’ll be ready for that too.
“This is definitely an interesting challenge. I haven’t decided what weight I’m going to fight at next. I am going to concentrate on the moment and on this great fight that we are going to have on February 11.”
O’SHAQUIE FOSTER
“The camp has gone very well. This is the best camp I have ever been in. I want to thank Vargas for coming up and challenging me for the title. Vargas will be another on my list.
“Everything happens for a reason. I had a couple of setbacks and had to focus and get the bad energy out of my life. Now I’m ready. I myself have a record at the Alamodome. I qualified for the Olympic trials there, so it’s going to be a fun night.
“I will be the first world champion to come out of my hometown, so I would be making history for Orange, Texas and raising the bar for the next generation. I am ready to show the world that I am one of the best fighters.
“I don’t know why he thinks I’m going to be aggressive with him. I come out with different styles every time I fight. If he tries to box me or take me down, good luck.
“We really work. Every fight I go in with a different style, so for this fight I will bring all the tricks. I’m going to show the world where I belong and that I’m here to stay.”
The fight is organized by Premier Boxing Champions and will be broadcasted on Showtime..
