
In his debut in the 130-pound division, former Mexican world champion Oscar Valdez battled seven rounds to defeat the California knockout artist Adam Lopez, a last-minute substitute who put up quite a fight, and fished out a real,scare at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas.
Lopez surprised everyone when he sent Valdez to the canvas in the second round, and gave Valdez lots of problems. Valdez looked stunned, but fought back until the end of the round.
Valdez recovered in the third round. In the fifth, Lopez let his hands go and land many good shots on Valdez. The sixth was quite good for both fighters, but in the seventh Valdez, send him to the canvas.
Lopez beat the count, but after Valdez landed another solid blow Referee Russell Mora stepped in. The official time was 2:53 minutes. The match was sanctioned as a WBC eliminator to challenge the 130-pound world champion, Miguel Berchelt.
