
1978 – Wilfredo Gómez knocked out Carlos Zárate in the fifth round. This victory marked the sixth defense of the WBC super bantamweight world title for the Puerto Rican Gómez and became one of the most legendary fights that fueled the sporting rivalry between Puerto Rico and Mexico. Both boxers entered the ring undefeated, with a combined record of 73 victories and zero losses.
1987 – Mexican Jorge Vaca became WBC welterweight winning against Jamaica’s Lloyd Honeyghan based in England. The fight took place at the Grand Hall in Wembley in London, England. The third man in the ring was Henry Elespuru. The Judges were Chuck Hassett, Malcolm Bulner and Bob Logist. The fight took place during the WBC Annual Convention activities.
