On September 20, two exciting female titles from the OPBF (Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation) were contested at the “DANGAN280” event at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.
OPBF Featherweight Title: Anela Osawa vs. Yoshie Wakasa
OPBF featherweight champion, Japan’s Anela Osawa, defeated her compatriot Yoshie Wakasa by TKO at 52 seconds of the eighth round.
This was a unification bout for both the OPBF and Japan Champion titles. The fight began with Osawa landing a pinpoint right cross that caused Wakasa to go down. The referee ruled it a knockdown due to a loss of balance. Afterward, both boxers became more aggressive. In the second round, Osawa moved in close with a right cross and a body shot, which prompted Wakasa to attack with a wider and more diverse variety of punches.
At the end of the fourth round, the scores were 39-36 (two judges) and 40-35 (one judge), all in favor of Osawa.
In the fifth round, Osawa used her footwork to land more right crosses. In the eighth and final round, Osawa landed a jab followed by a right cross that connected cleanly with Wakasa, leading the referee to stop the fight. With this victory, Osawa successfully made her first defense of the OPBF title and became the Japan featherweight champion.
OPBF Straw-weight Title: Madoka Wada vs. Peeyalux Sanpokang
In another thrilling bout, OPBF straw-weight champion, Japan’s Madoka Wada, defeated Thailand’s Peeyalux Sanpokang by TKO at 45 seconds of the seventh round.
From the outset, Wada, a skilled southpaw fighter, used a variety of techniques that overwhelmed her opponent, Peeyalux. Wada’s superior speed was reflected in the scores at the end of the fourth round, where all three judges had her ahead 40-36.
In the sixth round, Peeyalux tried to slow Wada down with clinches, but Wada remained aggressive. In the seventh round, a left cross from Wada landed on Peeyalux’s face. Peeyalux appeared to lose her will to fight, prompting the referee to stop the bout.
