Touching seventh anniversary Tribute to Alberto Reyes

The boxing gloves of Cleto Reyes have made a mighty impact Worldwide, and similarly, the kind and caring nature plus tremendous personality of Alberto Reyes extends just as far, in a global reach of friendship, culminating in a warm embrace.

On the seventh anniversary of the passing of Don Alberto, there was a Misa/Service of Remembrance at Salon Alvi, Delegacion Gustavo A Madero, Mexico City. It was packed with family, colleagues who are friends and other friends from all walks of life. A crystal clear spectrum and an indelible mark of the man and the high regard, esteem as well as deep affection he will always be held in.

Known and renown as the Puncher`s Glove, Cleto Reyes have been worn by the Superstars of Boxing, who swear by them. Muhammad Ali, Julio Cesar Chavez, virtually every Mexican Boxer, also Carlos Monzon, Roberto ”Stone Hands” Duran, Mike Tyson, Oscar De La Hoya…the list goes on. One of the guests was the Great and undefeated legend of Mexican Boxing, Superstar Ricardo ”Finito” Lopez, who was straw weight and light Flyweight Champion. A brilliant technician and a big hit, with a mule kick of a punch, reverberating and keenly felt, far above his weight category eminating and exploding from the confines of his slender frame. It goes without saying, but it must be said and stressed, that Reyes was his choice of Boxing glove.

Elizabeth, Beto Reyes and the rest of the family greeted each and every guest in a courteous manner, which typifies the Reyes Family. The Service was taken by Father Ricardo Anaya, who said that Alberto`s life touched so many other lives. That reunited with his Father Cleto this service was a celebration of Eternal life and their mortal remains have transformed into Heavenly form. It was wonderful that so many people remembered him, in these years after his passing.

Musicians with three guitars played serenades and there was a sea of pink and white garlands and wreaths. Representatives from the World Boxing Council and journalists were among the Congregation. This was another mark of admiration and everlasting respect for Alberto Reyes.

After the Service, there was a dinner in the ground floor Salon. People told stories and there were tributes to Alberto. A true professional, who along with his father built a world beating business, which the family continues with ingenuity, integrity, intelligence, business acumen, attention to detail, skill and devotion. As a leader, Alberto always led via professionalism and hands on example. He never asked anyone to do what he wouldn`t do himself and he did just so, walking his talk. He led from the front and built reputation from this admirable leadership. Striving for perfection, he knew his trade, his priceless life`s work and its goals, which span generations.

There was a classy film, cataloging, charting, narrating and chronicling the life of this extraordinary man. Meeting leaders and superstars of boxing. But then sitting down at a work bench and with his own skillful hands crafting and fashioning a boxing glove which bears the hallmark of excellence.

At the dinner table there was a boxing glove, with a clock designed and woven into its sturdy fabric. A unique time piece. The members of each table held a mini raffle to see who would take it home. So apt, because time flies and it`s imperative to use it wisely. Of all people Alberto Reyes knew and appreciated this, as the years clocked up and then sped by, forming combinations to add up to decades.

Alberto Reyes left his mark on this World and his memory lives on…forever.
