WBC cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk will fight a heavyweight bout versus Carlos Takam, on May 25 at MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland through the DAZN platform.
Usyk (16-0, 12 KOs), a multi talented 32-year-old southpaw and 2012 Olympian Olympic heavyweight gold medalist from Ukraine, has carved out a big role and dented a big hole in the cruiserweight division. He successfully completed his goal to become the undisputed cruiserweight champion and now… he plans to do the same as a heavyweight.
Winning in his debut at the heavyeight division will give him a superb fighting chance of securing mega matches against champions Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua.
“May 25 marks an important moment in my career when I debut in the heavyweight division. In the cruiserweight division, I accomplished everything and became the undisputed champion. That`s now my goal as a heavyweight.”
Takam (36-5-1, 28 KOs), 38, isn`t a simple straight forward fight. Originally from Cameroon based in France, he`s fought the cream of the heavyweights crop, including former champions Alexander Povetkin, Joseph Parker plus Dereck Chisora, and he`s offered great opposition. He also challenged Anthony Joshua in October of 2017 and was knocked out in the tenth round.
