In a great night of boxing, Marcela “Tigresa” Acuña was the star at the Resistencia Convention Center, Chaco, Argentina, after defeating her compatriot Lucrecia “Gringa” Arrieta, in a super bantamweight farewell fight.
The 46-year-old former world champion, who announced that this was her last fight, prevailed against the 31-year-old from Cordoba by points, at the end of ten rounds. The three Judges Javier Geido, Marcos Barbero and Jorge Gorini, agreed with a score of 97-93.
In this way, the Tigresa achieved victory number 53 of her fabulous professional career, which is complemented by 9 losses and two draws. For her part, Arrieta, who has been a professional since December 2019, has six wins and five losses.
Acuña has been the WBC super bantamweight champion, but her importance in Argentina has been even more significant. Acuña held a fight against Jamillia Lawrence in 2001, which was the first professional women’s boxing fight in that country.
Such is her importance in Argentine boxing that Marcela has the number 1 license as a professional boxer in her country.
The World Boxing Council and its President Mauricio Sulaimán paid tribute to the “Tigresa”, giving her a special belt to recognize her tremendous, memorable and historic career.
