The “WBC Enhanced Scoring System” is an innovative system designed to maximize justice in boxing.
The initial idea began back in 2012, as our WBC Lifetime President José Sulaimán, was trying to establish a system in an electronic tablet designed with a scorecard with the basic aspects to score each round not only with a numeric value but also with a qualitative one reflecting how wide margin of victory was each round.

Over the years, the WBC has continued to develop this novel system with the great vision and participation of Ring officials chairman Duane Ford and his team of officials.
This system is based on a simple yet profound philosophy: to capture the complete essence of a boxer’s performance in each round. While the traditional 10-point scoring system remains the foundation, the enhanced system introduces additional scoring categories for rounds in a qualitative assessment.

Individual scorecards have 4 boxes underneath the points boxes in which the judge selects the one which reflects how wide was the margin of the round.
• C = Close: The round was very even, but one boxer had a slight advantage.
• M = Moderate: The round was won more clearly than a “close” round.
• D = Decisive: The round was won with clear dominance.
• Extremely Decisive: The boxer completely dominated the round, showing an overwhelming advantage, hurting the opponent reflecting what a 10-8 round without a knockdown.
The WBC has been using this innovative scoring system since the Covid 19 pandemic as our organization implemented Remote Scoring. Judges have been scoring fights from home and such results are concentrated by the master panel which produces reports from all who participated .
Judges performance has improved. Concentration has reached its highest as the judge has to fully focus in order to provide not only the usual 10-9 , but dig deep and score whether the round was Close, Moderate, Decisive or Extreme.
It is our goal to achieve uniformity among all judges.
We congratulate the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) for adopting this score card , reaffirming its commitment to fairness, justice, and the integrity of the sport.

The WBC Enhanced Scoring System has been tested in the Riyadh Season WBC Boxing Grand Prix with incredible results. Since it is a direct elimination tournament no draws can happen. The system has been used in those fight which ended in a draw by the 3 judges.
The system provides a numerical score to each category :
C = 1
M = 2
D = 3
E = 4
As an example, fighter A wins the round C the that judge score is recorded 1-0
If it is M then 2-0 and so on.
8 bouts during the Grand Prix have resulted in a draw and with the WBC Enhanced Scoring System the fighters who truly deserved the victory were the winners.
