The WBC mourns the passing of South African legend Kosie “KO” Smith

The World Boxing Council and its President, Mauricio Sulaimán, express their deepest condolences following the passing of one of South African boxing’s most iconic and powerful figures: Johannes Jacobus Adriaan Smith, better known worldwide as Kosie “KO” Smith.

Kosie Smith, who passed away on January 15, leaves an irreparable void in the South African boxing community, but also a legacy of unwavering courage and a level of skill that made him a true phenomenon of the light heavyweight division.

A three-time South African national light heavyweight champion, Smith defended his crown with a ferocity and pride that made him an idol in his home country.

The WBC offers its prayers for the eternal rest of a pioneer of South African boxing, a warrior, and a great father.
