Promoter Felix “Tuto” Zabala, founder of the All Star Boxing company and promoter of Latin boxing, died Thursday night in Miami.
Born on October 18, 1937 in Pinar del Río, Cuba, Zabala was an icon of boxing promotion in Miami. He organized important and memorable evenings with champions such as Daniel Zaragoza, Miguel “Happy” Lora, Wilfredo Vázquez Sr, among many more spectaculars. Sadly, Felix’s career ended in January 2001, when he suffered a stroke, which led to further health problems for the next 20 years.
The World Boxing Council and its President Mauricio Sulaimán, offer their deepest condolences to the family and many friends of “Tuto.” This is irreparable loss. An everlasting thank you for all the fight nights and the wonderful friendship you shared with us.
Rest in peace!
