The Green and Gold Belt is the emblem of the World Boxing Council and the highest recognition for those who step into the ring.
However, the WBC has created a series of special, unique belts to reward and recognize special fights that have transcended boxing history. This magnificent trophy, bestowed by Mexico and the sport of boxing, is awarded to fighters who compete on Mexico’s two most representative dates: May 5th (The Battle of Puebla) and September 16th (Mexican Independence Day).
This upcoming September 13th at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, with a live broadcast on NETFLIX, the world will witness a spectacular clash between two of the best pound-for-pound fighters of the last decade: Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Terence “Bud” Crawford.
Canelo, a multi-division world champion in four weight classes, arrives as Mexican boxing’s biggest star and a global figure in the sport. Standing across the ring from him will be Crawford, who is undefeated and possesses an impeccable technique that has led many to consider him the most complete fighter of his generation.
For this unique fight, the WBC created the commemorative “Nahui Huey Altepemeh” belt, a tribute to Tlaxcala that fuses, melds and interweaves art, tradition, and sporting excellence.
The creation of the belt involved the participation of Guadalupe Xicohténcatl, who painted symbols of the Tlaxcalan worldview on leather. Meanwhile, Jacqueline España integrated 70 pieces of Talavera in pink and yellow tones with 10-karat gold details.
Every hand crafted piece created for the belt is the result of a meticulous process where color, texture, and form represent artisanal tradition and the energy of boxing.
The “Nahui Huey Altepemeh” belt reflects the cultural richness of Tlaxcala and its connection to boxing, making it a unique and priceless symbol of pride and sporting tradition.
On the central plate of the belt, the Cacaxtla mural and the Nahuatl inscription “Nahui Huey Altepemeh” were integrated, honoring the lineage of the four Tlaxcalan lordships. This gives shape to the heart of the belt, uniting Mexican art, history, and excellence. A Masterpiece.
