“Championing Mental Health” is more than a name, it’s a movement. A family. A reminder that when we show up for one another, hope grows, strength multiplies, and no one ever has to walk alone.
On the eve of the major event “Championing Mental Health presents: CMH 2 – Rematch Season” (to be held on December 13th), the boxing community united in Los Angeles to bring its message of emotional support directly to the youth, demonstrating that, at their core, everyone is one team and one community.
This effort is led by the Championing Mental Health and WBC Cares initiative, which actively seeks to end the stigma surrounding mental health, bringing together athletes, coaches, promoters, and community leaders.
The event was held in collaboration with El Centro Del Pueblo and trainer Daysi Garcia, who opened their doors and hearts to the cause. The highlight was the participation of professional boxers who, despite being in fight week, took the time to share with the young people: Gloria Munguilla, Jonny Mansour, Julius Ballo, and Abel Alba.
Their presence served as direct inspiration, demonstrating to the youth that an athlete’s strength encompasses both physical performance and emotional well-being.
The core message for the youth was clear: “You are the reason we do this. Your courage, your energy, your dreams, are the spark that will shape a stronger future and help end the stigma around mental health. Together, we rise.”
The initiative especially thanked Torklaw for their unwavering support and generosity to the community, and Senator Maria Elena Durazo for recognizing the athletes and staff who make these moments possible.
