The morale of David Morrell Jr

Undefeated Cuban David Morrell Jr. will face American David “El Monstro” Benavidez, interim light heavyweight champion of the WBC, on Saturday, February 1 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Morrell has declared his intention to seize Benavidez’s place at the top of the sport and for that he assures that he has had a great training camp.

“Benavidez is considered one of the most dangerous boxers in the world, so when I beat him, everyone will see what I am capable of. People call him ‘The Mexican Monster’, but I am not afraid of monsters, I chase them! He has never faced anyone like me, and when fight night comes, he will realize that I am faster, stronger and smarter than anyone he has ever stepped into the ring with,” pledged Morrell (11-0, 9 KOs).

After a controversial opening press conference to announce the fight in November, Morrell and Benavidez continued their war of words and both say this fight is now personal.

The 26-year-old has proven his qualities since his pro debut in 2019, dominating at 168 pounds before a successful debut at 175 pounds last August, when he won a unanimous decision over Radivoje Kalajdzic.

“This is the moment I have been waiting for, it is the fight that will change everything. A victory over Benavidez not only puts me on top, but it cements me as one of the best fighters in the division. I am ready to take that crown.”

The fight is organized by Premier Boxing Champions and will be televised on PBC PPV.
