Its fate will be in the hands of those who will vote to elect the president of the IBA (previously called AIBA) this coming September 25 in Armenia.
The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) after having discussed a comprehensive update on the status of Olympic boxing, including the governance issues of the International Boxing Association (IBA, previously AIBA), does not currently recognize the said group and boxing. It is, as of today, out of Los Angeles 2028.
The current president Umar Kremlev has faced constant opposition and in the last elections there was a terrible controversy by disregarding the candidacy of who is imminently the candidate preferred by the national amateur boxing federations, Boris Van Der Vorst from Denmark.
The world awaits what will happen on Sunday the 25th and from there, it will be possible to see a clearer picture, waiting for that close collaboration to be achieved with the IOC to resume the path of this sport in the Olympic Games, since boxing has been part of them since 1904.
Boxing is undoubtedly one of the most popular, beloved and important sports.
