Japanese bantamweight champion of the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) and three-time world challenger Terumi Nuki (15-5/10KOs) will challenge undefeated Danish WBC bantamweight champion Dina Thorslund (22-0/9KOs) on October 25 at the Graakjaer Arena in Holstebrol, Denmark.
For Japanese Terumi Nuki, who was born in Osaka and now lives in Kobe, this will be her fourth world title opportunity after the previous three, all of which were outside of Japan, twice in Mexico and once in Argentina.
Her first world title opportunity took place in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico, in 2017 when she fought for the WBC bantamweight crown and lost by decision against Mexican Mariana “Barbie” Juárez.
In her penultimate fight held in January 2024 at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Terumi Nuki, from Kobe, won the vacant regional bantamweight title of the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) by knocking out Indian Monika Singh in the sixth round.
In her most recent fight, Nuki was successful in her first title defense when she won by decision against Japanese Makoto Kikuchi in June 2024 in Tachikawa, Tokyo. The undefeated bantamweight world champion, Dina Thorslund, will defend her title, for the seventh time viz the WBO and for the third time in the WBC.
In June 2021 in Denmark, Thorslund was proclaimed the new WBO bantamweight world champion by winning by decision against the Mexican Jasseth Noriega for the vacant crown.
In September 2023 in Holstebro, Denmark, Thorslund had an important fight for the unification of two world bantamweight crowns and managed to retain her WBO bantamweight belt for the fourth time and won the WBC bantamweight crown by winning by wide decision (99-91, 98-92, 97-93) against the then sovereign bantamweight of the WBC, the Mexican Yuliahn “Cobrita” Luna.
Thorslund’s most recent fight took place in Copenhagen in May 2014 against Turkish challenger Seren Cetin, whom she defeated by unanimous decision (100-90, 100-90 and 99-91).
