In the third installment of this legendary rivalry, needle sharp Katie Taylor once again prevailed in a tense and tactical fight.
Unlike their two previous give and take bouts, where fierce exchanges reigned and rained in, this time both opted for a more thoughtful strategy.
Serrano was the more aggressive fighter, throwing 151 more punches than Taylor (382 vs. 231), but both landed the same number of effective punches: seventy and not with levity!
Taylor showed her experience, controlling the pace and counterpunching with needle point precision.
The Irishwoman had the best performance of the trilogy.
With this victory, Taylor closes the trilogy 3–0 in her favor, remaining the undisputed super lightweight champion.
Katie Taylor won by majority decision (97–93, 97–93, 95–95).
Both fighters took advantage of the interview microphones to express their gratitude, first to their opponent, highlighting the incredible level of boxing, plus sportswomanship and thanked the audience, who remained euphoric throughout, emphasizing the importance of the visibility of women’s boxing.
This last point was the most emotional of the night, given that this was a card composed solely of female talent and far exceeded expectations. It was absolutely fabulous.
The card, organized by Most Valuable Promotions, set a Guinness World Record as the card with the most belts on the line, with 17 belts.
