Former world champion Joseph “Jo Jo” Díaz Jr. (31-1-1, 15 KOs), will face ex world champion Javier “Abejón” Fortuna (36-2-1, 25 KOs) in a lightweight match, on July 9 in Los Angeles, California.
The fight will be Joseph Diaz’s debut at 135 pounds. “I am substituting for Ryan Garcia to challenge Javier Fortuna. I wish him the best. Mental health is a very important issue that people must attend to. I am excited and ready to go out and redeem myself with all my fans. I am ultra focused and concentrated. Fight night will be like a movie. I’m going to put all the boxers in the 135-pound divisions on notice, ” Diaz vows.
Javier Fortuna was originally scheduled to face interim WBC lightweight champion Ryan Garcia, but the fight was called off when Garcia was reported to have mental health issues.
“I am happy that JoJo Díaz has accepted the challenge to face me. I give a lot of credit to Joseph for having the courage, ”said Javier Fortuna.
The fight promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, will be broadcast on DAZN.
