Former world champion Stephen Fulton Jr. will have an eagerly -awaited rematch against WBC Featherweight Champion Brandon “The Heartbreaker” Figueroa on February 1 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, as part of a great card presented by PBC.
Fulton Jr., who already defeated Figueroa by majority decision in November 2021, commented on some aspects of the fight he will have:
“He’s not going to be able to beat me. He’s going to try, but I’m stronger. Many people don’t realize that. The fact that the rematch is at a higher weight will help both of us.
“I give myself a 7.5 in the first fight. I was tired after the second round that time and I had to push myself. That’s what people don’t understand. The weight was difficult for me. People use it as an excuse, but they don’t know how our bodies respond to us. I didn’t make my weight the right way and I had to put a lot of effort into it.
“We were already familiar before that fight since our paths had been wanting to cross for a while. Figueroa did his thing and did it well since he fought his way, and I did an impeccable job of adapting. He fought exactly how I thought he would, and he does it well as someone who goes forward. The fans didn’t expect me to stand firm, but he showed that I am capable of anything and that made the fight exciting.”
Looking ahead to the rematch, Fulton reinforced his corner with the arrival of renowned trainer Derek “Bozy” Ennis to his team. Fulton believes that Figueroa will also have improved with a more complete arsenal for the second fight between the two.
