The legendary Thai fighter will have a chance to become super flyweight world champion for the third time, when he faces the youngest WBC champion, Jesse Rodriguez, on Saturday in San Antonio, Texas.
Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (50-5-1, 43 KO’s) has won three fights since he lost the title to Juan Francisco Estrada. He was supposed to face Carlos Cuadras for the vacant super flyweight title; however, he had to withdraw after falling ill a few days before the battle.
There and then Rodríguez stepped forward, replaced the Thai at the last minute and managed to win the crown. Now, he is committed to facing Srisaket in what is expected to be one of the best fights of the year.
“It was a good fight. Rodriguez did very well although he’s still very young, and he`s a strong champion. He should not to be underestimated.
“I am ready to be world champion for the third time, if I achieve it, I would be the only fighter to achieve this feat”
Srisaket Sor Rungvisai captured the 115-pound title for the first time by defeating Japan’s Yota Sato via TKO in 2013, then reconquered the crown by defeating the legendary Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez in 2017.
With so many possible combinations in this division, the Thai contender boldly declared:.
“I would like to face Estrada and Chocolatito again. That remains my ultimate goal.”
