This year has been one of the most challenging in modern times, as we have changed our way of interacting day by day, and day to day.
Many have lost their jobs. Thousands of people have suffered from this virus and many others have lost the battle, leaving our hearts broken.
However, within all this darkness, we have found actions full of empathy, solidarity and love. Many people have stepped up to help those who need it most.
For this reason, the WBC implemented the “Heroes of Humanity” initiative, urging the boxing family to send information in order to recognize those heroes who during these difficult times have risked their lives to serve those who need it most. Doctors, nurses, police, firefighters, first responders, institutions or even neighbors who have stepped forward to support those in need in one way or another.
During the WBC welterweight championship fight night between champion Errol Spence Jr. and challenger, Danny Garcia, to be held in Texas, the World Boxing Council wants to give special recognition to all of our beloved heroes in this region. We invite all of you to nominate anyone who has excelled in providing help and services to others; Please send their name, contact information, and a brief explanation of why you think he or she is a hero to the next email: msalomon@wbcboxing.com.
However, this will not be the only way to recognize the effort of these heroes, as based on the mural “Angel with Gloves” created by the exceptional Denver artist Austin Zucchini-Fowler as a sincere appreciation for the courageous work of the medical community, the WBC has designed a beautiful special recognition that will be contested by Errol Spence Jr. and Danny García.
Yes … we know that this will be a special night of boxing where welterweight supremacy will be at stake. So we also want this to be a night to remember, because during this special card, we will have the opportunity to congratulate champions of life, heroes of humanity that deserve all our respect, affection and admiration.
