Sixth WBC Race Jose Sulaiman…more than a contest!
The sixth edition of the “José Sulaimán Race of Champions,” took place over its traditional six and twelve kilometers, as always gathering a tremendous attendance and participation from both the boxing family and great runners, starring former WBC champions Jorge Arce and Marco Antonio Barrera.
More than three thousand competitors were ready in Mexico City, with their attached numbers, watching, ready, steady and adjusting their watches, alert and poised for the starting bell.
Everyone crossed the finish line, each at their own pace, solo, in small groups, with family, in fancy dress or with their pets … and nobody was left behind.
Many of the participants came to this sixth edition with the firm intention of improving their times from previous races. And fortunately many runners accomplished just that, while many others participated for the very first time, setting their primary benchmark.
Unique and unforgettable moments during this event, as we met very special people who exceeded their own goals. Champions of life that are a true and humbling inspiration for all, remind us of the soul and essence of the “José Sulaimán” Race. Among them German de La Rosa, a warrior who has conquered the Spartan Race Mexico twice, being an example for the competitors and who crossed the finish line demonstrating that you can achieved all of your dreams. Also the group of blind people called “Halcones,” that year by year participate with great enthusiasm.
We especially want to recognize children with special needs supported by MGAS, José Maria Olivarez, Clara Moreno and Miramón A.I.P. and Fraternidad Sin Fronteras who braved the cold of the morning and achieved their goal with their hands and their heads held high. Remember that these guys had training sessions for three consecutive weekends through the Scholas Ocurrentes foundation, which was created by Pope Francis.
Maria Villegas, President of the MGAS Foundation, thanked the President of Scholas Ocurrentes México Hector Sulaimán, for his superb and constant efforts in helping
to create a better world, by showing us all that the barriers are only in our mind.
