Shawn Porter retains WBC welterweight title via majority decision

Shawn Porter defeated Yordenis Ugas by split decisión retaining his WBC welterweight title at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

Porter looked for the knockout from the beginning of the fight, but he faced a skillful Ugas, who now has a record of 23-4 and came to this fight confident with eight wins in a row.

In the middle rounds, Ugás and Porter exchanged blows, with Porter using the speed to keep the Cuban off  balance, but Ugas responded counter-attacking.well and effectively.

Porter improved his record to 30-2 with a draw in his first title defense. He won the belt last September with a unanimous decision victory over Danny Garcia.

Two judges awarded the fight to Porter with scores of 116-112 and 115-113, while the third saw Ugas winning with 117-111.
