In addition to being one of the best pound-for-pound boxers, super middleweight champion Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez holds a Magnificent Seven fraternal record.
On June 28, 2008, at Palenque Calle 2 in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico, Canelo starred in his 21st fight in professional boxing against former champion Miguel Vázquez, whom he defeated by unanimous decision.
The record breaker involved the seven Alvarez brothers. Each climbed into the ring and fought that night, earning them the Guinness recognition that was delivered this Wednesday to the Álvarez Barragán family.
Rigoberto “El Español”, Daniel “El Conde”, Ricardo “Dinamita”, Gonzalo “El León”, Víctor “El Matador”, Ramón “El inocento” and Saúl “El Canelo” fought and although not all of them won that night it was an historic evening.
In his boxing career, Rigoberto “El Español” was crowned super welterweight champion in 2010 and then retired. For Daniel “El Conde” and Gonzalo “El León” it was his debut and farewell. Ricardo “Dinamita” and Víctor “El Matador” had a few more fights.
Ramón “Inocente” went on to win the NABF super welterweight title and accumulated 29 wins with 16 knockouts, 8 losses and 3 draws in his career. Canelo has built a brilliant career and has established himself as a champion in four divisions.
He returns to fight in Mexico after 12 years. A fabled magical spell, in which he managed to draw the battle lines and portray himself as the face of boxing.
This fight will take place at the Akron Stadium in Guadalajara, Jalisco this Saturday May 6.
