Serhii Bohacuk from Vinnytsia Ukraine, has had to pause his boxing career, because of the War which has so grievously affected his homeland, but after a gap of more than a year, he`s preparing to box again and try to re-gain the WBC Continental Americas super welterweight title in a contest on November 3rd against Aaron Coley, at the Quiet Cannon Country Club in Montebello, California.
The title is vacant, and as such up for grabs. It was in Serhii`s showcase until his only loss as a pro to Brandon Adams via an eight round TKO. Serhii says he`s learned from that loss and has returned all the stronger, but more importantly, much the wiser: “I need to be smart, think and no hands down. I lost because I thought he was tired. This is boxing and you have to be careful!” Nevertheless, the twenty-seven-year-old is a mighty puncher. His record is 20-1, 20 KO`s. A 95.24 percent stoppage rate. He built a record of more than two hundred amateur fights before turning pro, but still hankers after longer fights to gain more experience, which is tremendous power has so far curtailed.
In an interview with Pepe Sulaiman at the WBC`S LA office Serhii smiles as he says: “Boxing is life for me.” His grins broadly as he says that Coach Abel Sanchez gave him the nickname “Skinny” but he fares much better as super welterweight than welter. It fits his slim frame and his plans a lot better. He is currently trained by Manny Robles. Serhii praised both Abel and Manny explaining they have taught him so much.
Serhii stresses the seriousness of the war which is ravaging Ukraine, his desire to help and keep safe his friends and family, and their advice and encouragement for him to fly the flag with boxing which is his job. He describes himself as a pressure fighter, rather than a boxer who jumps around or dances, with a mission to focus, concentrate and not to miss punches…or opportunities. His boyhood heroes were Mike Tyson, The Klitschko brothers, GGG, Gatti and Ward. All tremendous punchers.
Serhii says people tell him he has the Mexican style and in two more fights he`s ready to challenge for the world title. He said: “I need good sleep, good food and to lose weight in a proper manner. When you are world champion you need to be smart. Stupid people can`t be champions!”
Be smart and enjoy this interview with a young man who favours a cropped hair style, but is not short of a word or two.
