Via a press release, Ryan Rozicki announces that he will no longer fight Badou Jack due to injury- The fight was part of the “Canelo” vs Scull card.
A torn bicep suffered during training, sidelines him so he`ll need time to heal for several months, before re-grouping.
Ryan says that during his first sparring in Texas, he threw a jab, and heard a “pop”; when he saw his arm, his bicep was wrapped around his shoulder. The injury requires surgery, and the recovery will require patience, so he won`t be ready for the May 3 fight in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Now, Badou Jack is waiting for an opponent to defend the WBC world cruiserweight title. One of the possible opponents of the champion is the champion in recess, Noel Mikaeyan.
Mikaeyan became WBC cruiserweight champion in November 2023. A showdown between Mikaeyan and Rozicki had been agreed for June 2024, but the Armenian withdrew from the fight due to injury.
There were two more attempts to make the fight, one in September and one in December, but neither bout happened due to various circumstances. The WBC installed Jack as the champion and Noel was named recess champion.
Badou Jack’s opponent for May 3 is expected to be announced within the next several days.
