Rock Steady Boxing Transforms the Global Fight Against Parkinson’s
As part of a global commitment to utilizing sport as a tool for health and empowerment, the Rock Steady Boxing (RSB) program has established itself as the premier international benchmark in combating the effects of Parkinson’s disease.
Through a non-competitive, non-contact training system, RSB is proving that boxing can be used as medicine for both body and soul. Founded in 2006 by Scott C. Newman, who has personally experienced the challenges of Parkinson’s, this program utilizes the traditional techniques of great champions to improve patients’ quality of life. By integrating exercises such as jump rope, footwork, and speed bag drills, RSB focuses directly on combating stiffness and mobility issues.
Rock Steady Boxing emphasizes:
Agility and Balance: Crucial for preventing falls and improving motor coordination.
Strength and Precision: Exercises designed to slow the progression of physical symptoms.
Mental Health: A fundamental pillar that boosts self-esteem and provides an unparalleled support community.
What began as a personal initiative has transformed into a worldwide movement. Currently, Rock Steady Boxing has over 800 affiliated centers across the globe, allowing thousands of individuals to access training adaptable to every stage of the illness. The World Boxing Council recognizes and celebrates these programs that dignify the sport and demonstrate that, inside and outside the ring, boxing is an inexhaustible source of resilience and hope.
