Our Weekly Press Conference: Coffee Tuesday moved down country to Otumba, State of Mexico, hometown of World Boxing Council featherweight champion, Rey Vargas.
The meeting was joined by Mr. Francisco Favela Peñuñuri Federal Deputy of District 5, who commented:
“For us it is a great honor that these personalities are part of the champion’s life. What we can contribute as legislators and as human beings will do so with care and love. I was born in Culiacan, Sinaloa and I came to Teotihuacan lands years later and since then I have fallen in love with the region.
“ It’s nice to have you here and to know how hard the people of this region work hard to excel and inspire the youth. The Teotihuacan valley region is home”
Rey Vargas
“I am very happy to welcome you here. All boxers have our own story. Boxing is for the hungry, even if it sounds harsh. We all have troubles and it is hunger that makes us go further.
“My mother did her best to get money for my commute to amateur fights and all of that forged us professionally and as a family. My family motivated me to build who I am now.
“About my professional future, we are not ahead of the facts. We know that we have a mandatory commitment and we will fulfill it. As you all know, we do not deny ourselves to anyone.
Carlos Vargas
“We suffered many years to achieve what we achieved. We have reached the summit and I hope we can continue there for much longer. We never stop dreaming, to keep moving forward.”
Alejandra Roldan (Rey Vargas’s mother)
“Thank you for all the support you have given my son. As his father says, we suffered a lot but here we are. My son’s example testifies to hard work, professionalism and dedication.”
Mauricio Sulaiman
“The Vargas are a beautiful family that have always treated us so very well. We visited this gym in February 2020, before the start of the pandemic, and it is amazing to see how it has grown. Above all, seeing how Rey Vargas has made this place grow with the firm intention of supporting the community.”
Fate has well marked paths. The sacrifices and striving of the Vargas family was reflected in their son, in his professional achievements and in his personality. God bless you.”
To close this event, world featherweight champion Rey Vargas offered a meal to journalists and WBC staff as a way to thank all the years of accompanying and supporting him.
