
Rey Vargas aims to unify the super bantamweight title
WBC super bantamweight champion Rey Vargas, wants to face down the big names of the division and then unify his title.
The 28-year-old champion won the prestigious Green and Gold belt after audaciously marching to Yorkshire in England, defeating local hero Gavin McDonell. And since then he`s successfully defended his crown on three occasions, on US turf. Now he`s ready to go in search of the most renowned challengers. Ray says he`s ready to return to the ring after completely recovering from a niggling hand injury.
Rey who`s meticulously trained by Hall of Fame Coach Nacho Beristain said: “I’ve never had a simple challenger. All of my defenses have been outside Mexico and against dangerous rivals. We have a defense on February 9 against the silver champion Venezuelan Franklin Manzanilla. This is my first goal to accomplish this year, and it`ll be complicated.”
Rey (32-0, 22 KO ”s) will face Manzanilla on February 9, in the main event of a card presented at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California. It`s his fourth defense of the WBC super bantamweight belt in the US.
