As we mark the first anniversary of the WBC Women’s Summit 2025, the World Boxing Council celebrates the legacy of an event that redefined the industry.
Held during the first days of April 2025 in the world’s boxing capital, Las Vegas, this forum was more than just a gathering of champions; it was a manifesto for unity, justice, and the growth of women in the sport.
The Summit focused on fundamental pillars: fighter safety, purse equity, mental health, and the development of post-retirement opportunities.
Working groups allowed attendees to debate officiating, judging, and the importance of female representation in leadership roles, highlighted by the historic appointment of Duane Ford as WBC Vice President during the event.
One of the most brilliant moments of the Summit was the participation of undefeated former world champion Laila Ali.
As one of the most influential figures in boxing history, Laila not only shared her ring experience but also inspired attendees with her vision on female leadership and the importance of building a legacy beyond the sport. Her presence reaffirmed that the path blazed by great legends continues to guide new generations toward success and autonomy.
The presence of legendary figures and current monarchs brought an unparalleled brilliance to the event.
In attendance were Christy Martin, Mariana Juárez, Lulú Juárez, Yessica Nery Plata, Yessica Chávez, and Jackie Nava, alongside Jill Diamond and Christiane Manzur from WBC Cares, among other prominent personalities.
Key Highlights:
Pioneers of the Ring: A tribute was paid to the women who paved the way, featuring Sue Fox, founder of WBAN, who received a well-deserved recognition for her lifelong work in documentation and promotion.
Limitless Bravery: Brieller Walker was honored as the “World’s Bravest Woman,” a reminder that the true strength of boxing resides in the spirit.
New Sovereigns: Police officer and boxer Tiara Brown received her Green and Gold Belt, symbolizing the duality of public service and sporting excellence.
Eternal Legacy: A deeply moving tribute was held for “Jesszilla” (Jesselyn Silva), whose memory continues to inspire new generations of pugilists.
Keynote Speakers and Special Collaborations
The forum featured experts in sports medicine, nutrition, and law, as well as insights from elite promoters.
A major highlight was the unveiling of the new gloves for Jackie Nava, the “Aztec Princess,” developed by Cleto Reyes and specifically designed for the anatomy and needs of female boxers.
From high-level sessions to gala dinners, the Women’s Summit was a journey of sisterhood. The closing of the event in Las Vegas served as a call to action for the entire boxing family to continue prioritizing women’s boxing.
“The Women’s Summit was not the end of a goal, but the beginning of an era of greater respect and dignity for our warriors. One year ago in Las Vegas, the world heard the voice of women’s boxing louder than ever,” recalled WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán.
